[God's Providence] 4. Why was Adam kicked out?
4. Why
was Adam kicked out?
Last
time, we saw that Adam was created as a spirit. This time, we will discuss why
Adam was cast out.
Adam ate
the fruit of good and evil and as a result was cast out of the world of God.
But why did God have to drive him out?
God was
concerned that by eating from the tree of life, Adam would live forever. (Genesis 3:22)
So, why
is this a problem?
Because
he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Adam got to know good and
evil.
This does
not simply mean that he learned what is good and what is evil.
The good
in the knowledge of good and evil symbolizes God and the evil symbolizes the
Devil.
Adam came
to know the Devil as well as he knew God after eating the fruit.
In other
words, he became close to the Devil as well.
As a
result, Adam could be controlled by the Devil.
This
meant he was in the same position as the Devil's spy in the world of God.
Therefore,
God, fearing that he would live forever in that state after eating from the
tree of life, forced him out of the Garden of Eden.
And
fearing that Adam would enter the Garden of Eden again, God kept both him and
Eve from coming back with Cherubim and a flaming sword. (Genesis 3:24)
The
Cherubim are God's closest associates; they are four archangels wearing masks
of four creatures. (Revelation 4:6)
Adam was
able to reenter the third heaven.
So, we
can see that when Adam was driven out, he did not have a body of flesh.
Banished from
God's world, Adam and Eve belonged to the Devil.
Likewise,
those who have sinned belong to the Devil. (1 John 3:8)
Using
God's fleshly conditions, the Devil made Adam and Eve live on earth.
The Devil
claimed that this world and mankind created by God are his own. (Luke 4:5-7)
To this,
Jesus called the Devil a liar. (John 8:44)
But
unless man obeys God, God cannot prevent man from being controlled by the
Devil.
In His
endeavor to save mankind, God is still working to destroy the Devil. (John 5:17)
This
time, we have seen that God drove out Adam because He worried about Adam eating
from the tree of life. Next time, let's look at the salvation of mankind.
