[God's Providence] 5. How will mankind be saved?
5. How
will mankind be saved?
Last
time, we saw that God drove out Adam because He was worried about Adam eating
from the tree of life. This time, we will talk about the salvation of mankind.
Mankind
fell into sin and have had no way to return to God.
Not only
do people sin in their daily lives, but they also inherit sin from their
parents upon being born.
Therefore,
as generations pass, the sins of newborns increase.
God
planned to send Jesus to save mankind through his sacrifice.
In order
to do so, God needed a nation so that Jesus could be sent to do this.
God chose
Abram and created a nation called Israel through his grandson Jacob.
And God
told His prophets that He would send a Messiah among them.
There are
100 prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament.
But more
than 25 cases were foretold by Jesus Himself.
It would
indeed be hard to prophesize about yourself before you were born.
But when
you consider that Jesus was with God before he was born, this is not strange.
Jesus
revealed that He had been with God before the creation of the world. (John 17:5)
Let's
look at some of the words that Jesus foretold.
Anointed.
Isa 61:1, Luke 4:16-21
Betrayed
by a friend. Psalm 41:9, John 13:26-30
Sold in
30 silver coins. Zechariah 11:12, Matthew 26:14-15
Suffered.
Isaiah 50:6, Matthew 26:67
To be
ridiculed. Psalm 22:6-8, Matthew 27:43
People
share his clothes. Psalm 22:18, John 19:23-24
Give him
vinegar with gall. Psalm 69:21, Matthew 27:34
Pray for
the adversary. Psalm 109:4, Luke 23:34
Headstone
of the church. Psalm 118:21-23, Matthew 21:42-44
A
fountain to wash away sin. Zechariah 12:10, 13:1, John 7:38
Light for
the Gentiles. Isa 49:5-6, Luke 2:30-32
All of
these were foretold from a first-person perspective and were fulfilled by
Jesus.
This
makes it possible to understand that the prophecies were given by Jesus.
Jesus
said he was the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)
There is
no way to return to God unless through Jesus.
This
time, I told you that salvation is possible only through Jesus. Next time,
let's discuss if Jesus is our Creator.
